Forest View is a village in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 778 at the 2000 census. It is close to Chicago and has a large Slavic population. The village, however, is primarily industrial.

Al Capone is said to have lived in Forest View in the mid-1920s.

Geography

Forest View is located at (41.807379, -87.786065)[2].

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 1.2 square miles (3.1 km2), of which, 1.0 square mile (2.6 km2) of it is land and 0.1 square miles (0.26 km2) of it (11.11%) is water.

Demographics

As of the census[3] of 2000, there were 778 people, 302 households, and 209 families residing in the village. The population density was 749.9 people per square mile (288.8/km²). There were 312 housing units at an average density of 300.7 per square mile (115.8/km²). The racial makeup of the village was 92.93% White, 0.39% African American, 4.76% from other races, and 1.93% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 10.41% of the population.

The top three ancestries reported in Forest View as of the 2000 census were Polish (25.9%), Czech (19.0%) and Irish (15.1%).[4]

There were 302 households out of which 24.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 55.3% were married couples living together, 10.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 30.5% were non-families. 27.5% of all households were made up of individuals and 16.9% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.58 and the average family size was 3.17.

In the village the population was spread out with 20.7% under the age of 18, 8.4% from 18 to 24, 26.3% from 25 to 44, 23.9% from 45 to 64, and 20.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 42 years. For every 100 females there were 100.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 98.4 males.

The median income for a household in the village was $46,000, and the median income for a family was $59,107. Males had a median income of $44,545 versus $30,208 for females. The per capita income for the village was $21,376. About 3.5% of families and 5.2% of the population were below the poverty line, including 6.8% of those under age 18 and 8.2% of those age 65 or over.

Forest View is in Illinois' 3rd congressional district.

Education

Forest View is served by Lyons School District 103. Grade school students attend Home Elementary School in neighboring Stickney, and George Washington Middle School in Lyons and then J. Sterling Morton High School District 201's Morton West located in Berwyn.
